DIY Wednesday: Christmas Cards

I finally finished my christmas cards. I swear I spent way too much time of my life on these, but I wanted them to be special for the people I give them to. I found that recycling was my best friend during this process. Everything I used was just lying around- paper bags, folders, fake flowers, ribbons from old presents, broken ornaments, buttons.

I want to show you how I made one of the cards.

You will need
Thick paper
Decorative paper
Paint
Toilet paper
A fake flower
Hot glue gun
Optional: Pen

Step 1. Use strong paper to cut out the size of the card you want.

Like so.

Step 2. Add paint. I used Antique White.

Step 3. Rub the paint on the card using crunched up toilet paper. Let the toilet paper rub off onto the paint, creating a textured effect.

 Like dat.

Step 4. Let dry. Then add decorative paper onto the spine of the card.

Step 5. Cut the petals and leaves off of the fake flower.

This is to make sure they are flat as possible.

Step 6. Arrange them however you fancy, and glue everything together.

Step 7. Glue the flower onto your card.

 Step 8. Write a message.

Music Monday: Bright Eyes, A Christmas Album

The only people who don't love Bright Eyes are those who have never heard Conor Oberst. And since it is that holiday season I feel the need to take advantage of this Music Monday to figuratively hit two birds with one stone. By that I mean sharing Bright Eyes and a holiday CD. A Christmas Album, by Bright Eyes, features 11 classic christmas songs with a beautiful, soft, and haunted acoustic sound.

Okay, so this is totally illegal- but if it aint free it aint punk. http://www.mediafire.com/?nd5vgix5nzj

  1. "Away in a Manger"
  2. "Blue Christmas
  3. "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem
  4. "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
  5. "The First Noël
  6. "Little Drummer Boy
  7. "White Christmas
  8. "Silent Night
  9. "Silver Bells
  10. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
  11. "The Night Before Christmas

Caturday: Obsession with Cats Part II

This is Charlotte. A few winters ago I was walking downtown with some friends, who swore they heard a cat meow. So they followed the noise to the outside of a store where we found a kitten caught in wires. So we took her home and called her Mcnugget.

My mom hates that name so she called her Charlotte. She's out cutest kitty, with a sometimes-lazy eye, and pouch belly.

She wont play with cat toys. Instead she'll fling broccoli, cotton balls, and wrappers around the floor and attack them. Do your cats have weird toys too, or is Charlotte just special?

Thursday: Thrift Find

The first thrift store find I'd like to show off would be this dress. When I found it at Odds and Ends, it was a romper. But the romper version of it gave me a wedgie and looked totally bizarre. So I made it into a dress. Besides my obsession with floral patterns, I love that this dress can be worn all year round. And it is, I wear it all the time :)

Even puppies love it.

What's your favorite thrifted item??

Turkey Day for a Vegetarian.

I spent my Thanksgiving the very best way- scrambling around making food, getting dressed 5 times and driving to go eat a huge dinner with my family. Since I'm a vegetarian everyone always asks me what I eat on Thanksgiving. That picture above may sum it up.

How was everyone else's holiday? What did you guys do?
